Upwood, Cambridgeshire
Summary of requirements
Ecclesiastic floor plan & land survey of Ramsey St. Marys Church, Upwood. To investigate severe land subsidence and identification of settlement solution. To prepare for internal office/community centre design & renovation project.
Site notes
The survey was carried out in early-December 2019. It was well timed as the church was soon to go through its busiest time of the year. The Christmas festivities brought decorations, community gatherings and a whole host of different visitors. All factors that can lead to practical delays, such as schedule complications and increases in site time attendance.
Project deliverables
- 22D & 3D AutoCAD drawings (2020 release) PDFs & photographs.
Survey Method
- The survey was done using a combination of our survey instruments: Total Station, GPS, a 3D Laser Scanner and the more traditional, tape and Disto.
- The survey boundary perimeter was identified by the client. Permanent survey control established at accessible locations. The measuring process was done over two days on site (the premises locked overnight; the key returned at the end of operations)
- The client was happy that the survey was carried out in a quick and safe manner with minimal complications.
Survey specifics
Topographic Survey:
To provide 2D & 3D land survey drawings in AutoCAD PDF formats. Delivering a comprehensive ground level model relative to ordnance datum and paying particular attention to other site details such as boundaries, foliage and head stone positions.
Measured floor plans & elevations:
- To provide accurate and detailed 2D internal ground floor plans of the building with level and height details. Extra effort was used to capture the immediate detail around the enclosed office area, which featured a kitchen and WC. This was key to the internal design scheme.
- We provided four detailed façade elevations which included all walls, building outlines (including movement joints) and immediate ground profile. Structural opening sizes & windows and door configurations.
- Profiles of surface coverings and ecclesiastical stone cornices.
- All ventilation, drainage and rainwater downpipes & electrical services, lighting, cabling and signage.
- Roof coverings, ridges & eaves and all roof protrusions.
- Drawings were comprehensively annotated and included dimensioning where requested.
- Internal sections were requested to clearly indicate all structural floors, walls, openings, ceilings, window head heights and cill heights, stairs & steps, ramps and all other intersecting details.
- In this instance internal room elevational views were not required.
