Topographic Surveys

Site Focus Surveys - Topographic Surveys

A topographic survey or land survey is an act of accurately measuring and representing the detail, showing relevant, specific features within a natural and/or man-made environment.

Although varying and plentiful, generally features would include surfaces, boundaries, structures, services and ground levels.

Leica Geosystems are our preferred brand of survey equipment, ranging from survey grade GPS and Total Stations to various laser scanning technologies.

What’s Involved?

A bespoke specification or our pre-determined comprehensive survey specification can be used as a checklist to ensure the details you require are included in the survey. Or as some of our clients prefer, can be customised with options to better suite individual priorities such as a more cost-effective or time-effective solution.

Site work is typically carried out by initially establishing a GPS primary site control grid using our survey grade RTK GPS unit. The surveyor would familiarise themselves with the site and explore the variety of methods and work flows best suited to survey the site. Survey details are collected either via GPS, Robotic Total Station or occasionally, captured using a high-definition laser scanner. On-site sketches/hand-drawn notes and photographs are also, arguably, still an asset to any surveyor.

Following the site operation, an accurate survey plan can be used by Architects, various specialists in housing and commercial development, planning professionals, project managers, builders and any individuals seeking a fuller understanding of a site and embellishing the planning and design process. It is often an integral part of any development project.
